HE ONLY SEES ME
(Inspired by “The Best in Me” Performed by Marvin Sapp)
When the world defines us by our past mistakes, God defines us by His eternal grace. Marvin Sapp’s powerful lyric—“He saw the best in me, when everyone else around could only see the worst in me”—echoes a gospel truth that reshapes how we view ourselves and others. Scripture reminds us that God sees not as man sees; He looks beyond our failures and sees the potential He placed within us from the beginning.
This message meets us in moments of regret, rejection, and fear of not being enough. The enemy whispers condemnation, but the voice of God declares identity. When others write us off, God writes us into His story. Through Christ, our identity is not in what we did but in who we are: redeemed, beloved, and called. That truth frees us from shame and fuels us to live with holy confidence.
Like the prodigal son welcomed by the father, we too are embraced not because of our record, but because of our relationship. He is ours—and we are His. When we live in that assurance, our past loses its grip and our purpose comes into focus. We begin to walk as those truly seen, known, and loved by our Creator.
God’s grace doesn’t minimize our sin—it transforms our story. He not only forgives us but entrusts us to reflect His heart to others. So we move forward, not defined by failure but by the One who saw our best before we ever believed it ourselves.
PRAYER
Father, thank You for seeing beyond my past and calling out my identity in You. Help me walk in the truth that I am fully known and fully loved. Teach me to see others through the same grace You’ve given me.
APPLICATION
Write down three truths from Scripture about who you are in Christ. Post them where you’ll see them throughout the day.
SCRIPTURE READING
“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)
